Sacramental Formation
Baptism

Sacramental Formation offers parishioners an opportunity to understand post Vatican II theology regarding reception of sacraments today. Sacraments offer us an opportunity to celebrate with the larger community. They form us in the biblical themes of liberation and freedom. We encounter our Lord in ritual that is celebrating the past and present saving actions of Christ. This is done with a strong, active faith and understanding that leads to participation. Sacraments are acts of the Church, outward signs of the mystical body, the Church. We need to grow in our understanding and appreciation of each ritual itself.

Baptism is the first step in a lifelong journey of commitment and discipleship. Our journey begins with a call from God through the Church to live the gospel as followers of Christ. Baptism is our way of celebrating the embrace of God who loved us from the first moment of our conception. During the ritual of Baptism we receive the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and accept
God’s transforming love.
Procedure for Celebrating the Sacrament of Baptism at Lumen Christi
1. Baptism preparation is required for new parents, or those who have not had a class in 4 years,
before the Baptism of their child. Baptism classes can be taken either at St. Thomas More or
Lumen Christi. Parents reflect on their own faith life past and present; spirituality of children and
families and how to foster it; and review the Rite of Baptism.

2. Call the Faith Formation Office where the class will be located to register for the class.

Call Lumen Christi to schedule the Baptism.
