First Eucharist

The Eucharist is “the source and summit of the Christian life.” (Lumen Gentium 11). It is the culmination of God’s action sanctifying the world in Christ and of the worship offered to Christ and through him to the Father in the Holy Spirit. (Congregation of Rites). By the Eucharistic celebration we already unite ourselves with the heavenly liturgy and anticipate eternal life, when God will be all in all. (I Cor. 15:28). It is by the conversion of the bread and wine into Christ’s body and blood that Christ becomes present in this sacrament.
Children in second grade religion class at school or in second grade Faith Formation on Sunday mornings begin to prepare for First Eucharist as part of their classes. All children who will celebrate First Eucharist in April 2012 must be registered for Faith Formation by October 1, 2011 or be enrolled in a Catholic school. In early December 2011 invitations will be mailed to families of second graders inviting them to continue their preparation by registering for the parent‐child sessions. If you have an older child, a child with special needs, or a child who has not been baptized, please contact Phyllis Hamill-Little at phamill-little@lumenchristicc.org. Here are the dates you need to remember: • Friday, January 13, 2012 Registrations are due to the parish office • Saturday, January 28, 9:00-10:30 AM Parent-Child session • Saturday, February 25, 9:00-2:30 PM Learning centers (families will sign up for a 1 hour slot) • Saturday, March 10, 9:00-10:30 AM Parent-Child session • Saturday, April 14, 9:00-10:30 AM Practice in church • Sunday, April 15, 12:30 PM First Eucharist Mass |
