Dear Parent or Guardian, I am delighted to begin work in this vibrant community and look forward to meeting you and your child. Confirmation for the candidates from Lumen Christi will be celebrated on Sunday, April 18, 2010 at the Cathedral. Preparation for Confirmation will begin with 8th graders and their parents in the community room on Tuesday, November 3rd at 6:30 PM. Our parish records indicate your daughter/son is in 8th grade. Please return the enclosed registration form to the parish office no later than October 30th. In order to cover the cost of materials, there is a $25 fee. We do not want anyone to miss this opportunity due to cost, so please contact me if you need a full or partial scholarship. If your child is not in 8th grade please contact me so we can correct our records. At the November 3rd meeting, candidates and their parents will: • Learn about the preparation process • Learn about inviting someone to be a Confirmation sponsor • Receive a calendar with important dates • Receive materials for family and sponsor use • Participate in small group activities (please bring some memento or photo from the candidate’s baptism) • Close with a brief evening prayer This is an exciting time in the life of your child. I am eager to help you prepare him/her for this sacrament of Christian initiation. We will need adult volunteers to work with the candidates in small groups during Lent. Please consider this opportunity to serve. All volunteers who have contact with minors must complete a background check and VIRTUS training. If you have not already completed these, I will help you. | Registration of parish 8th grade candidates for Confirmation is due October 30, 2009. Who should I ask to be my sponsor? Confirmation sponsors must be fully initiated Catholics who will accompany the candidates through the preparation process and who will stand with the candidates at the Cathedral on April 18, 2010 for their Confirmation. Sponsors must not be the parent of the candidate. Do I need to send in my baptism certificate? Yes if you were baptized in another parish. No if you were baptized at St. Gregory, St. Leo or St. Therese. If you have not yet celebrated First Eucharist, Phyllis will help you prepare now. What will I have to do? The candidates are expected to worship regularly at Sunday mass, to participate in school religion or Sunday Faith Formation classes, to participate in the large and small group Confirmation sessions, to chose a significant service activity (several options will be provided by Side by Side Ministries), to participate in the February 20 retreat. If you are an older teen who wants to be Confirmed, we can help you.
